MURIATIC ACID

DESCRIPTION

Black Swan’s MURIATIC ACID is 28% hydrochloric acid, 18° Baume.  It can be used to etch concrete floors and walls prior to painting, cleaning brick and cement, removing rust stains from toilet fixtures,  removing rust from metal, and adjusting the pH of swimming pools. 

This product contains no inhibitors and will attack metal after rust is removed. To neutralize this acid action on the metal make a solution of water and heavy duty detergent and rinse thoroughly.  Then follow with plenty of water.

               DIRECTIONS

1. Always wear protective clothing. Rubber gloves and plastic safety glasses are strongly recommended. 
2. Carefully open cap to avoid splashing.  
3. Determine what concentration of MURIATIC ACID to use by examining Table A.
4. When diluting MURIATIC ACID always pour acid into water and avoid splashing.  Only use plastic container for mixing.
5. If acid is bubbling when applied then solution is strong enough.  If acid is not bubbling slightly increase the strength of the solution.
6. Flush thoroughly with water immediately after cleaning or etching is completed - usually 1 to 2 minutes. 
7. FOR SWIMMING POOLS:  Always use a testing kit when adjusting pool for correct acid balance.  A pH check should be made as often as chlorine check.  The pH should be between 7.2 and 7.8.  Use approximately one quart per 10.000 gallons if pH is above 8.0.  Keep swimmers out of pool until acid is thoroughly dispersed in water.

PRECAUTIONS

DANGER/POISON

May be fatal if swallowed.  Causes severe burns.  VAPOR HARMFUL. May cause blindness if splashed in eyes.  Read all warnings and directions. Use only as directed. 

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN

FIRST AID:  If swallowed, give milk of magnesia, lime water, aluminum hydroxide gel or soap solution.  Avoid use of baking soda.  Drink copious amounts of water.  Follow with olive oil, vegetable oil, milk or egg whites.  If splashed on skin, wash with large amount of water and then a paste of sodium bicarbonate.  If splashed in eyes, flush immediately with running water for at least 15 minutes.  If overcome by vapor, remove to fresh air, in all cases CALL A PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY.
