Potassium Permanganate
Description
Potassium Permanganate is a very strong oxidizing agent. It converts dissolved iron and/or manganese to insoluble oxides which can be easily removed by filtration.
Directions
Regeneration – Normal procedure for regenerating an iron filter is usually specified by the filter manufacturer or supplier and depends on water condition. There are many types, designs and methods of introducing potassium permanganate to the filter. A normal method is to make a solution and apply automatically or manually to the filter at regular intervals. If unsure consult owner’s manual.
Dosage – For each cubic foot of filter media, 4-6 ozs. dry permanganate is required. It may be added directly to the filter or mixed with water and added as a solution. 4 ozs. of permanganate will dissolve in 1 gal. of water at room temperature.
General Information – Stains can be removed from the skin with a diluted solution of sodium bisulfate or lemon juice.
Danger – CONTAINS POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE. AVOID CONTACT WITH EYES, SKIN, CLOTHING & MUCOUS MEMBRANES.
First Aid Treatment – Skin contact – Flush thoroughly with water. Call physician or poison control center immediately. If swallowed – Give one or two glasses of water or milk. Call physician immediately. Eye contact – Flush thoroughly with water. Call physician or poison control center immediately. Keep out of the reach children. Keep container tightly sealed, store in cool dry place. Do not mix with any other cleaner or chemical.
