Black Swan's Potassium Permanganate is a very strong oxidizing agent. It converts dissolved iron and/or manganese to insoluble oxides which can be easily removed by filtration.
Normal procedure for regenerating an iron filter is usually specified by the filter manufacturer or supplier and depends on the water condition. There are many types, designs, and methods of introducing potassium permanganate to the filter. A normal method is to make a solution and apply automatically or manually to the filter at regular intervals. If unsure consult the owner's manual.
For each cubic foot of filer media, 4-6 ozs. dry permanganate is required. It may be added to the filter or mixed with water and added as a solution. 4 ozs. of permanganate will dissolve in 1 gal. of water at room temperature.
Stains can be removed from the skin with a diluted solution of sodium bisulfate or lemon juice.
